Google's Duo: New Video Calling App Released For Android And iOS

Do you remember the two apps Google unveiled earlier this year at the 1/0 conference? I mean the Allo and Duo apps. Well, Duo which is a one-to-one video calling application is now rolling out on android and iOS devices according to this Google's blog post

"Today, we’re releasing Google Duo — a simple 1-to-1 video calling app available for Android and iOS," the search giant said in the blog post. "Duo takes the complexity out of video calling, so that you can be together in the moment wherever you are."

How Duo Video App Works
Duo is fundamentally based on phone numbers, which simply translates that it just requires users phone number to get started. You can connect with people in your phone’s contacts list. The Duo app is designed to work even if you are on a slower network like 2g unlike what you get on Facebook and Skype video calls. It also automatically switches between Wi-Fi and cellular data automatically without affecting or stopping your call.

Key Feature
For me, the best feature on this app that is unprecedented to me is the "Knock Knock feature" which allows you to see live video of the caller before you answer the call. Google says it "makes video calling more spontaneous and welcoming," isn't it cool to know or have a glimpse of who is calling you before answering? It's great.

According to Google, the rollout just started and would be available globally in few days time. Keep checking on playstore for the app availability.
