Introducing MasterCard With Fingerprint Scanner

Very soon, the use of Password or PINcodes to unlock or access hidden stuffs both online and offline will be a story of the past. You will agree with me that most newly released smartphones now come embedded with fingerprint scanner while some comes with Irish scanner as we can see on Tecno C9 for fast unblocking of your phone without entering password or pattern. Well, MasterCard is set to include fingerprint scanner chip on their card. Remember Mastercard is a leading global payments & technology company that connects consumers, businesses, merchants, issuers and help facilitate cashless transactions.

The new MasterCard with Fingerprint Scanner is currently being tested in South Africa, and MasterCard hopes to roll them out to the rest of the world by the end of 2017.

The MasterCard company is testing out thelis new fingerprint sensor-enabled payment cards that, combined with the onboard chips, offer a new, convenient way to authorize your in-person transactions. Instead of signing a paper receipt or entering your PIN while struggling to cover up the number pad, you simply place your thumb on your card to prove your identity.

HOW TO USE THE NEW MASTERCARD WITH FINGERPRINT

Step 1. Insert credit card.
Step 2. Put your thumb on it.
Step 3. Walk away with your purchase.

HOW THE CARD WORKS

✔️Your bank will inform you that the biometric card is available, and if you're interested, you'll have to go to an enrollment center (most likely a bank) to get your fingers scanned.

✔️ An encrypted digital template of your fingerprint is stored on the card's EMV chip. You can save up to two prints, but they would both have to be yours –

✔️ You can't authorize someone else to use your card with their fingers. After your templates are saved, your card is ready to be used at compatible terminals worldwide.

ADVANTAGES OF THIS CARD
✔️ It's easy and fast to use
✔️ Even if the card is stolen, the ‘thief’ won’t be able to use it since his/her finger print scanner won’t be identified.
✔️ There is still an option to use your PINcode instead of the fingerprint (just as it's done on smartphone with fingerprint scanner).

Remember MasterCard revealed that its trial will expand to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region in the coming months, and a global rollout is expected by the end of the year.

  2. The introduction on the fingerprint sensor for Master card is a good one but can't give 100% security, maybe a backup for the card PIN.

  3. This is a welcomed development but let's note that everything that has a positive side also has a negative side.
