What Should I Do To Minimize My PC Data Consumption Rate?

1. Turn Your Network As Metered Connection:
This is very important if you don't want the zapping of your data when browsing with your laptop or PC. When you set your connection as metered connection, virtually every update and unusual software running in the background with your data will stop thereby saving some precious data for you. If you are using windows 8 or 8.1, to set it up, just click on the network icon on your Tools bar, it will pop up. then click "set as metered connection" that's all.

2. Disable Automatic Window Updates:
Windows update is the highest consumer of internet data in computers and the worrying issue about it is that most times you may not need the update, Though its good to have an updated system but not without the users consent. This updates, when not disabled will continue running on your system background without you knowing so the best option is to turn it off or let it do only the checking for new updates while you decide when it will be continent for you to download and install the updates. To disable or enable automatic updates, go to control panel, click system and security, select windows update and now click update settings. In the updates settings tab, there are four different options for you to choose from.
>>> Install updates automatically
>>> Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
>>> Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
>>> Never check for updates
From the above options, if you really want to data and at the same time be security conscious, you should choose option three. this is because it wont do any background downloads or installations rather it will notify you whenever there is an update. so you choose whether to download and install it or not.
Meanwhile, if you are using windows 10, you won't see these options as it was not included in windows 10. But i wrote a tutorial on how you can enable it if you are on Windows 10.

3. Disable Auto Play Plugins In Your Internet Browsers:
Web browser plugins like video plugins are really data consuming items and as such, should be avoided at all cause, All the plugin do is to automatically play any video it sees on the web page you visit; whether you like the video or not. You see its more wiser to disable its automatic feature so that you can use it any time you want to watch video online and not the other way round.

4. You Can Disable Images
This option comes in handy whenever you are actually running almost out of data. Allowing images to be loading on your web pages won't help at all but disabling it can save you over 60% of data.
To disable image in google chrome web browser,
>>> Go to settings
>>> Select show advance settings
>>> Under privacy, click content settings
>>>  Now select do not show images

For internet explorer

>>> Open internet options
>>> select advanced tab
>>> On the multimedia section
>>> remove show  pictures

For Moxilla Firefox

>>> Go to option window
>>> click content icon
>>> Uncheck load images automatically.

5. Finally, recheck your system very well to see if there is any other app running in background that you don;t want, lest i forget, Set your antivirus software to check for updates but ask you whether to install or not.
