ROK Studio Lunches ROK2, ROK3 Channels On GOtv, DSTV.

Entertainment just got better on MultiChoice as Nigerian film studio ROK adds two interesting channels called ROK2 and ROK3 in both DSTV and GOtv in Africa.

You may ask; which channel can I find ROK2 in GOtv? Which channel can i find ROK3 in GOtv? Which bouquet will I subscribe in order to enjoy these new movie channels? If these are your questions, then worry less because I've got you covered as that's what this post is all about. But before then, let's do a little introduction of ROK Studios which is also the parent company of Irokotv.

GOTV ROK CHANNELS

ROK Studio was launched back in 2013 by popular Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku but its TV channel ROK was later added on DSTV in 2016 which see actors such as Bolanle Ninalowo, Kenneth Okolie, Eve Esin, Uche Ogbodo, Mary Lazarus, Queen Nwokoye, Jackie Appiah and Francis Duru return to the ROK family.

ROK CEO, Mary Njoku, is one of Africa’s most popular movie producers having produced over 344 movies and eight original TV series such as "Husbands of Lagos" and "Single Ladies" since its launch in 2013.

WHAT IS ROK 2 CHANNEL?
It's a 24hr movie and series channel that showcases movies like "King of Kings," "The Heiress," "Throne of Revenge" and "Mark of the Gods" and other origin of Nollywood movies.

You can find the channel on DStv Channel 169 Family Up Package, Pan Africa GOtv Channel 17 (all other countries) and GOtv MAX package, Channel 117 Ghana and Channel 317 Uganda.

WHAT IS ROK 3 CHANNEL
ROK3 is a 24hr movie, series and music channel, ROK 3 showcases a wide variety of talent from Ghana. This channel celebrates a mix of local language entertainment, urban delights and talented musical artists of West Africa.

It launches with titles including "Black & White," "Stalemate," "Banks Chronicles," "Agya Fakye Me," "Ama Pooley," "Born Again," "Coach Krakye" and "Ye Obi Dea Yie."

ROK 3 is available on Pan Africa DStv Channel 164 Access Up Package, Pan Africa GOtv Channel 18 (all other countries), GOtv MAX & Plus package Channel 118 in Ghana and Channel 318 in Uganda.

MultiChoice Reacts To DSTV/GOtv 2019 Shut Down Reports

MultiChoice has been on the news since the beginning of February simply because of the potential shutdown of its PayTv services - DSTV and GOtv as a result of their operational license expiring in June, 2019.

Reports has it that the license which was issued back in 2014 won't be renewed because it's not in line with the Digital Switch Over (DSO) White Paper.

Meanwhile, MultiChoice has finally reacted to the report and says that it complies with the regulatory requirements and applicable laws on TV broadcasting. Below is an excerpt of the statement.

“GOtv is provided under a fully licenced and registered entity in Nigeria, and this license comes up for renewal in March 2019" the statement reads.

"As a law-abiding and committed Nigerian operator which has fulfilled (and continues to comply with) all regulatory requirements and applicable laws, it is not clear how or why this license would not be renewed, and as such the company will investigate further in the best interests of the many customers it serves in the market" it further says.

The statement adds that "MultiChoice remains committed to providing its customers with a wide variety of quality entertainment through the usual best standards."

Recall MultiChoice launched in Nigeria in 1994. In 1995 it launched DSTV (Digital Satellite Television), a direct broadcast satellite service for the Sub-Saharan African market.

In 2011 MultiChoice launched the pocket friendly PayTv version called GOtv digital platform, a pay television offering on digital terrestrial television (DTT) at cheap cost.

Reason Why MultiChoice DSTV/GOtv May Shut Down Operation in Nigeria

For the past few days, most of you may have heard the news of MultiChoice which is the parent company owners of both DSTV and GOtv pay-tv networks shutting down operations in Nigeria by June 2019

But what actually is the reason for this in unfortunate news?

Well, it's reported that the Federal Government notified the management of MultiChoice DSTV/GOTV that their operations, in Nigeria, will come to an end in 2019.

According to the government, the operational license of MultiChoice expires June next year (2019). This will affect all DSTV and GOtv services if they didn't fix this.

However, from a letter issued on Tuesday to that effect, by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation(NBC), the license issued to them in 2014 by NBC will not be renewed because it was not in line with Digital Switch Over (DSO) White Paper.

Meanwhile, for Multichoice (DSTV/GOTV) to operate again in Nigeria after expiration of its license, there is just one option which is to go to licensed Signal Distribution company, that is Pinnacle Communications Ltd or ITS.

But in another development, GOTV has been accused of being used as a medium to siphon foreign exchange from Nigeria by its parent company, South African Multi Choice DSTV.

While this news may tremble some DSTV and GOtv users who are addicted to their services, I will like to give you a lifeline. I don't actually see MultiChoice Leaving Nigeria. They will always find a way to settle issues with FG to continue operation as Nigeria is a big market for the company.

GOtv GO Gaga Confam: Price Of Decoder Slashed

GOtv is slashing the price of its decoder from N7,700 to N5,900 in a latest offer tagged GO Gaga Confam. The new price which kicked off on Monday, 11 September, will also see customers enjoy one month of GOtv Plus free subscription along with the new price.

Speaking on the price slash, John Ugbe, Managing Director, MultiChoice, said the price slash is part of the company’s mission to make quality digital television more affordable in readiness for the digital migration while enriching lives of its customers through unbeatable entertainment.

“Our mission is to provide the best entertainment at an affordable price. We understand that times are tough but that doesn’t mean that our customers have to miss out on world-class entertainment”, he said.

The GO Gaga Confam price slash comes complete with the GOtv decoder, outdoor antenna (GOtenna) and one month GOtv Plus free subscription. At the expiration of one month, subscribers can choose either the GOtv Plus bouquet for a monthly subscription of N1,900 which gives up to 57 top quality local and international channels, GOtv Value for N1,300 monthly with 40 channels or GOtv Lite at N400 monthly with over 20 channels and three payment options.

DSTV/GOtv Pay-Per-View (PPV) Subscription Model Introduced By MultiChoice

This post is about the new subscription model from MultiChoice called DSTV/Gotv Pay-Per-View (PPV) Model. Here you will get all the information you need to know about this new subscription and how to go about it.

Multichoice Nigeria has announced it would be launching the pay-per-view (PPV) subscription model in the country.
The company says this would allow subscribers watch some important programmes not available on their bouquet. Though, at an extra cost to the willing consumers.

According to a report by Telecompaper, the Head of Public Relations of Multichoice, Caroline Oghuma states that this concept is different from pay-as-you-go, which has been misconstrued to mean pay-per-view.

“Pay TV operation is not like the telecom version where you pay for the amount of airtime you want to use. Pay-as-you-go, as believed by some customers, is not obtainable in the pay TV business,” said Oghuma.

Oghuma also points out that the PPV model is a global practice which allows interested parties pay and view special programmes or events.

“Paying for PPV in Europe and the UK is equivalent to paying for two months subscription in Nigeria. We know Africans love boxing that is why we are bringing the best thing that is happening in the world to Africa.”

Many subscribers of Multichoice Nigeria's pay-TV service are currently having issues with the company on its fixed subscription regime.

Some of the company’s pay-TV subscribers state that Multichoice should extend the pricing model to over all its bouquets. Consumers say the current pricing regime is unfair and waste of resource as they usually don’t get the value for their money.

“Having a pay-per-view could be a good alternative, as to me the current subscription regime is a cheat on me. Initially, I used to do the full bouquet like N13000 ($42.5) and then I just thought I was wasting money and reduced it to around N3000 ($9.8). What I really watch on the DStv is the E!,” said Ms. Olamide, a DStv subscriber.

Another Explorer subscriber of the DStv pay-TV states that: “The current regime is a reap-off on subscribers as we should only pay for what we consume.”

“I feel the PPV thing should work. I suggest this should be based on option as there many channels and for the explorer package where they record some of the best movies for you to watch. Then, how would do this as it would also affect them.”

GoTV doesn't require any dish or Smartcard to work and that's one of the interesting things about it. Unlike it's competitor Startimes that needs Smartcard which is inserted into the decoder in order for you to use it.

Meanwhile, i have said earlier, GoTv is a digital Pay Tv service that is not satellite base, i.e does not require installation of dish. It uses broadcast method that is similar to what the likes of NTA and AIT use, but with better video and audio quality. It was launched into Nigerian market back in 2012. GoTv was first launched in OYO state capital (Ibadan) as GoTv Nigeria offering 20 channels (GoTv bouquet Nigeria) then.

GoTv coverage has gradually extended to almost all Nigerian Cities and towns in the past years. Though, there has been complaint by users on their website and social media pages about their poor service in some location. I have experienced GoTv quality in locations like Portharcourt, Lagos and Oyo and Osun, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Abia state in Nigeria. It will be wrong to say their service is perfect, but it will be more wrong to say it is bad.

However, my experience with GoTv when i went to Zamfara was too bad, I mean there was no signal so i had to switch to Startimes which is a direct alternative to GoTV. But right now, am no longer in Zamfara state and am enjoying gotv again in Owerri.

GoTv Nigeria does a very great job at providing great video and audio quality on all GoTv Bouquet Nigeria when their network is stable.

What Is GoTV Lite? All You Need To Know About The Cheapest GoTV Bouquet

GoTV Lite is the most affordable bouquet from GoTV plans introduced recently to offer subscribers more flexibility and cheap pay TV services across the federation.
GOtv Lite package was unveiled in Nigeria this month (August) as well as a new look to offer subscribers better experience and affordability. GOtv started operating in Nigeria, first in Ibadan, Oyo State, in October 2011, and has since extended its signals to 24 States in the country.

As parts of the events to mark its fifth anniversary celebration in October, GOtv introduced the Lite Bouquet which is the most affordable plan to crash down the subscription rate for its customers scattered in 50 cities in about 24 States across the Federation.

The launch of GOtv Lite increases the options available to subscribers to three, including: GOtv Plus for N1800 with 50 channels, GOtv value for N1200 offering over 25 channels and GOtv Lite offering 20 channels.

Speaking during the unveiling of the product, the Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, said: As a customer-focused organization, we understand that subscribers’ needs are not all the same, and their economy might differ. As such, we have introduced GOtv Lite to cater for the down market. GOtv subscribers can now pay less to enjoy more.”

He also said that GOtv celebrates five years of enabling hundreds of thousands of households join in the digital television revolution, adding that they are giving their subscribers more choice in service delivering. Subscribers can subscribe to the new GOtv Lite by visiting MultiChoice offices, dealers or agents,” he added.

The GOtv Lite channel lineup includes: Afro Music Pop, Al Jazeera, e.TV, FAITH, Islam channel, JimJam, AIT, LTV, MITV, ONTV Max, TVC Entertainment, TVC News Nigeria, Channels, Trybe TV, STV, Wazobia TV, Galaxy TV and NTAi. Subscribers to the GOtv Lite package will also be able to access two audio channels, namely Naija FM and Wazobia FM.

On his part, General Manger, Sales and Marketing, Martin Mabutho explained that most people are complaining of the affordability of DSTV, this increases the desire of their expert in content creation to create a solution for all. He also said that complaints from consumers on signal stability, arise from either the tuning or positioning of the antenna.
