Relief: WhatsApp Extends Support For Blackberry Till End of 2017

This is a huge relief for Blackberry users worldwide as WhatsApp Extends Support For BB 10 devices till end of 2017 instead of the initially stated date of June 30th.

WhatsApp started issuing threats to Blackberry users since last year 2016, prompting most of them to ditch their device and port to a different platform (Android and iOS) where WhatsApp is fully supported. But since then, they have being extending the support date so this is not the first time and maybe it won't be the last time it will be extended. Although you can vividly count the number of people currently using Blackberry devices.

In a recent report, WhatsApp.nl reported that WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 (and BlackBerry OS7+) would be extended until the end of 2017, instead of the initial reported June 30

However, it's interesting to know that an update confirming the extension has been rolling out of WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 which confirms the news officially extending the support as the change log notes read 'changed client end-of-life date to December 31, 2017'.

In conclusion, it's not yet totally over for Blackberry users as they can still continue enjoying WhatsApp till the end of this year and hopefully praying for yet another extension or intervention as it's the case in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market lol 😁

HOW TO GET IT?

Download WhatsApp for Blackberry

Well, in a similar development, S40 users (Symbian phones) have also been given more time and have had their end date extended as well. But S60 ends June 30th. It's quite unfortunate.

BlackBerry OS Hits ‘0%’ Market Share As Woes Continues

Blackberry continue to go down as BlackBerry OS Hits ‘0%’ Market Share in the latest report from Gartner

In the last quarter of 2016, BlackBerry sold 207,900 devices running its own operating system, but that might as well have been zero.

Anyway, for those who need to put Blackberry’s dire situation into perspective, it would interest you to note that BlackBerry holds a 0.0% share of the smartphone market, this is according to the latest report from Gartner. For the sake of comparison, Windows OS still had a market share of 0.3 percent. iOS earned a 17.9 percent market share in Q4 2016, and Android was the clear winner with 352.7 million smartphones sold and a market share of 81.7 percent

Imagine, even ‘Other OS’ performed better than Blackberry’s OS. It's actually an end to the OS especially after WhatsApp discontinued working on the OS.

BBC100-1: Another BlackBerry Phone Coming Soon With 4GB RAM

For the past few months now, Blackberry has been teasing the world with the Blackberry Mercury but little did we know that the company is developing another branded device dubbed BBC100-1 although the phone is yet to be officially announced as of the time of filing this report.

The Blackberry BBC100-1 leaked last week with PT BB Merah Putih. The phone might be available in some of the emerging markets like Indonesia, India and the Philippines.

In terms of features, the Blackberry BBC100-1 is powered by 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor processor together with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. It sports a 5.5-inch display that supports HD (720p) resolution. The BBC100-1 will come with a decent 13-megapixel camera, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera in the front. Meanwhile, the phone is rumored to come with a 3,000 mAh battery and will come also with dual-SIM support. As a matter of fact, it could be first ever Blackberry phone to come with dual SIM support.

Fingers crossed as we wait and see how things turn out in a couple of days. I will keep you updated as usual. Keep tuned.

Sad: MTN Blackberry Service Will End By January 27th in Nigeria

MTN has announced that it will discontinue Blackberry services in Nigeria starting from the 27th of January 2017. This includes Blackberry Internet Services popularly known as BIS.

In a message sent to subscribers on Thursday, MTN said:
Dear customer, MTN BlackBerry service will be decommissioned on 27/01/2017. Please upgrade to a smartphone and enjoy 100% bonus on any data bundle purchased.

When contacted on this issue, MTN said: ” it means you won’t be able to subscribe to any blackberry service by that date. However, you can upgrade to a smartphone and purchase any of our data bundles.”

This notification follows Whatsapp’s announcement that it will discontinue services for Blackberries on December 31st, 2016, a deadline which was eventually extended to June 2017.

On a good side of the notification, MTN promises Double Data Bonus once you upgrade to a new smartphone.

So why are you still using BB? Na only you waka come? Abeg drop your kpalasa BB and join the moving train. Android and iOS rules!

Why Are You Still Using BB? Glo Stops Blackberry Internet Services BIS

Am still asking... Why are you still using a Blackberry phone even when the creators of the devices are pretending as if they never made Blackberry phones. Everyone is against BB devices. They are now very outdated and old school.

Oh i remember the time when Glo BIS was the talk of the town, it was the best data plan then especially for Android users as data prices were on the high side but once you tweak your imei to a BB imei, you would be eligible to use Glo 3GB for 1000 Naira BIS plan on your Android phone. This really made people prefer phones with Mediatek processor because they are easy to tweak.

Fast forward it to this time; Etisalat started the trend of stopping the use of Blackberry Internet services on Blackberry OS7. Don't forget that if not the facts that WhatsApp extended their live support to Blackberry devices till June 2017, users of BB won't be able to use WhatsApp right now. Now Glo has announced their own sad news specifically prepared for BB users.

Dear Customer, starting December 17, 2016 BlackBerry services on your device (BBOS7 devices) will no longer be available. You can still continue to use the device to Call and Text. We request you to migrate to a BB10, Android, Windows or IOS handset to use your remaining data.

BLACKBERRY PLANS THAT ARE AFFECTED (will be unavailable)
• BlackBerry Complete weekly plan
• BlackBerry Complete monthly plan
• BlackBerry Absolute weekly plan
• BlackBerry Absolute monthly plan
• BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
• BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES)

So what is the way forward? The best step you should make is to migrate to Android device or iPhone… no matter how you love your Bold 5, Curve or Storm, they are all outdated and no more in vogue.
#RIP BlackBerry #RIP Glo Blackberry Plan..

Relief: WhatsApp Extends Support For Those Using BB OS and Nokia Symbian OS Till July 2017

Contrary to the earlier date (December 31) set by whatsapp to stop working on Blackberry and Nokia phones running BB OS and Symbian OS respectively, people still using these devices has been given more grace period to upgrade to an Android or iOS device in order to continue enjoying WhatsApp or kiss goodbye to the worlds most popular IM applications.

In recent notifications sent to users, Whatsapp Has Extended Support Until July 2017 so if you are still using a Blackberry device that runs the BB OS or the old-school Nokia devices, do yourself a favor by upgrading.

Meanwhile, this extension excludes handsets using Android 2.3 and earlier versions, Windows Phone 7 or iOS 6.

I still don't get it why some people still stick with BB. I even saw one guy last week pricing a BB device that costs around N40k. What for? Let's get it right. BB OS is old school and far behind Android and iOS.

RIP Blackberry: Etisalat Discontinues Blackberry Internet Services (BIS)

Blackberry users are still receiving repeated blows from all corners as many app developers have abandoned them; earlier this year, WhatsApp announced that it won't be working on Blackberry OS devices any more.

This and other challenges prompted Blackberry CEO John Chen to say that the company would exit the smartphone business last month October, after struggling to compete with Android and iPhone.

The latest blow is from Etisalat as the telecom giants have discontinued Blackberry Internet Services commonly known as BIS subscriptions. Below is the message they sent to their Blackberry subscribers.

Dear Customer, our BB service will no longer be available. You will continue to enjoy your current subscription till it expires. Thank you for choosing Etisalat

Just Imagine! How can someone use a smartphone without Internet services? That means it will be usable for making calls and using some scrap BB apps.

If you are still using a Blackberry, my dear you are in another planet because even blackberry makers now hate the OS.

Do You Like Qwerty Keyboard SmartPhones? Blackberry Mercury Is Here (BBB100-1)

I know some people that are still very much addicted to Qwerty Keyboard phones even when almost all smartphones now adopts the full touch screen interface. This will serve as a great news for such people.

A new blackberry android smartphone has been spotted on geekbench benchmark listing with a full hardware Qwerty keyboard with model number BBB100-1

You can recall that Blackberry decided to dump its OS after failing to compete with Android and in June this year, they announced that they will soon launch new phones coming fully with Android OS. The two smartphones are already official - the Blackberry DTEK50 and Blackberry DTEK60 (although the later is technically unannounced) as at the time of this report.

Well, the benchmark revealed some key specs of the new BB phone with Qwerty Keyboard.
The name of the phone is Blackberry Mercury and the 4.5 inches phone is powered by a 2GHz Octa-core processor produced by Qualcomm. It uses 3GB of RAM and comes with Android 7.0 Nougat OS

It supports both touch screen and full physical QWERTY keyboard below the screen, 32GB of storage, an 18 MP main camera, an 8 MP selfie shooter, and a 3,400 mAh battery.

BlackBerry, First To Fix QuadRooter Security Issues On Android Device

Early this month a very serious security issue called QuadRooter which attacks primarily all android devices running Quad Core Processors was discovered which now posses threat and fear on users worldwide.

As a matter of fact, BlackBerry was the main focus of criticism after they claimed the new BlackBerry DTEK50 was the most secured android phone in the market.

So BlackBerry just responded by being the first major OEM to patch all of the QuadRooter issues across their device portfolio. Security updates fixing the issues have been released to both the Priv and the DTEK50 , BlackBerry’s current Android OS phones.

Below is BlackBerry statement on the development about QuadRooter Vulnerabilities issues Fixed

"Three of the four vulnerabilities have already been fixed on PRIV devices with the August Marshmallow patch and on all DTEK50 devices. In addition, the secure boot chain present in all BlackBerry devices naturally mitigates the remaining issue. We’re not aware of any exploits for this vulnerability in the wild, and we don’t think any of our customers are currently at risk from this issue. This is a great example of how our Android platform hardening proactively protects against issues that haven’t even been discovered yet…"

BlackBerry resorted to joining the winning team (android OS) having failed to win the battle of supremacy between Android OS and BlackBerry OS.

Below are features that make the DTEK 50 the most secure smartphone according to blackberry:

1. Rapid Security Patching: BlackBerry has a record of being the quickest to deliver security patches, setting the bar in incident response and patch management to protect your device from malicious threats.

2. DTEK™ by BlackBerry App: Enables users to automatically monitor their OS and apps to know when their privacy could be at risk and to take action to improve it.

3. The DTEK app also tracks applications and notifies you when someone is: taking pictures or videos without your knowledge, turning your microphone on, sending a text message, or accessing your contacts or location.

4. Hardware Root of Trust: BlackBerry’s manufacturing process uses a proprietary technique that adds security from the start, allowing for the tracking, verification, and provisioning of DTEK50.

5. Secure Boot Process: Starting with the root of trust, each stage of DTEK50’s secure boot chain must first verify that the next component is fully intact before proceeding, ensuring your device has not been tampered with since the last restart.

6. Android OS hardening: BlackBerry provides additional security patches, improved random number, address space generation and certificate pinning to make it more difficult for attackers to target a device by scrambling application/system memory.

7. FIPS 140-2 Compliant Full Disk Encryption: Protects your private information, like pictures or bank information, from being stolen if you were to lose your phone.

Confirmed: Say Goodbye To WhatsApp On Blackberry OS Devices

It's unfortunate blackberry users have no other option than to ditch out their lovely baby because i believe no one would be happy using a smartphone with no support for WhatsApp.

Even the owners of Blackberry has disowned their Operating System so why are you still boasting with a BB. Three years ago, i predicted that android would take over the world. I also said that android is better than blackberry OS and so many people countered me especially when i made comment about it on Nairaland.

Fast forward it to now - the Blackberry OS is now an outdated tech that no one would even accept if given freely as android has beaten it hands down. From numerous applications to choose from to easy customization and tweaking... Android is just dope.

Since the beginning of this year, news has spread of the disabling of WhatsApp on Blackberry devices and some took it serious while others neglected it but right now, the warning is increasingly uncomfortable for BB users. To see if this is true, just try and update your WhatsApp if you are using a Blackberry device and see whether it will work again.

The official statement says that by 31st December 2016, Whatsapp will be completely disabled on all devices running on Blackberry OS.

See What He Found Inside An Original Blackberry Charger

Be very careful when purchasing stuffs in the market as sellers are now using different dubious means to disguise and sale fake products as original. Last year, some people reported how they were deceived in Computer Village Lagos. One bought an iPhone of about N109,000 but when she got home, she realized that it was just a cloned Chinese iPhone.

Another person recounted how he was deceived and given a carton of stone instead of a blackberry phone they displayed while he was ordering for the product. I don't know whether they use cha~rm or not. This time around, they have advanced to another level.

A user on Nairaland was the victim this time around. Checkout what he said in quote.

"Am a fan of BB authentic charger not until the day one of my charger was bad so I had to make a switch with another part of my other spoilt one. There is a general knowledge that the charger with more mass is original due to the presence of mini transformer inside.Only for me to open the fake BB charger and I found a metal of about 20g inside to support the weight to make the fake have weight like the original. Pls be warned Nigerians. Pics below of both fake and original".

You can recall that Infinix Mobile released an official statement and description of an original charger and a fake charger. I will advise you to read the article; How to spot a fake Infinix charger. After reading the article, you will be in a better position to identify and differentiate between a fake and an original phone charger.
