Are You Suffering From the Too Many Browser Tabs Syndrome? It's Not Just You

How many tabs are open on your browser right now? Go ahead and count them. The number may be embarrassing to admit, but you're not alone in the struggle. In your mind, every tab contains something important. Maybe it has information to help with a future project, or perhaps it's just something you want to read later. No matter the excuse, you have too many tabs open, and your brain may be to blame.

browser tabs

Humans and Multitasking Don't Mix

Opening a ton of browser tabs slows down your computer, and it can slow down your brain, too. Although you may think you're a pro at multitasking, that's really not the case. Unlike a handy online notebook, your mind can't comprehend and organize all those tabs at once. Instead, tab-overload leaves you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated.

Humans mistakenly believe they are multitasking masters. However, the brain works in a much different way than previously thought. Even though you may be able to create the illusion that you're working on several things at once, you're really just quickly switching from one task to the next. Those addicted to the idea of multitasking end up overloading their brain, and many even perform worse on cognitive tests.

Why Do You Keep Opening Tabs?

If human multitasking is a myth, why do so many people keep opening more and more browser tabs? Boredom may play a role. Having constant access to technology makes people feel as if they need to be doing something at all times. As a person begins one project, they may feel the urge to immediately work on someone else. Unfortunately, this often leads to starting too many things without truly finishing anything.

Others may open more tabs to make sure they stay in the social loop. Internet FOMO (fear of missing out) is very much alive and well. It's the reason people check their email every 30 minutes, and it also explains why users continually refresh their Facebook and Twitter profiles. After all, no one wants to be the last person to hear about the latest news and gossip. In many instances, FOMO leads to unwanted anxiety, but you may be able to avoid it by closing some of those tabs.

It's important to note that there are times when it's necessary to open several browser tabs. For example, if a student is writing a term paper, they may have several research sources open at once. Doing so lets them easily gather and compare the information they need to complete the project. However, if the same student tries to write essays for multiple classes at once, having too many browser tabs open will only slow them down.

Is There Such a Thing as Too Many Tabs?

While you may feel accomplished for having a ton of browser tabs open, they're really not doing you any good. Instead of focusing on the project at hand, the extra tabs will just end up short-circuiting your brain. Information is power, but consuming it in an unorganized fashion can leave you feeling stressed out.

What's the best solution? Close all those extra tabs, and avoid jumping from one task to the next. Instead, focus on a single thing at a time before you start browsing the internet for your next project. You'll retain the information better, and your computer will also run faster than ever before.

What doesn’t incognito mode protect against?

Incognito windows (called Private Browsing in Firefox) are a great feature of modern browsers that will help you avoid some low-level tracking techniques. However, they are not an anonymity tool.
Among many other techniques, websites can use cookies to track your browsing history, which may also reveal your online habits.
What doesn’t incognito mode protect against?

Beyond the use of cookies, you may be tracked throughDNS records or by your system administrator. An incognito window will help against some threats but is useless against others.
How incognito mode works
The incognito window or private browser will open a new window that behaves like a freshly installed browser on a new computer. There are no cookies, no bookmarks, no saved searches, and no pre-filled forms. Every time you close the incognito window, all the information the browser collected will be deleted.
This, unfortunately, does not stop others from collecting information about you.
Incognito mode will prevent cookies from identifying you
When you visit a website, embedded scripts will place a small file called a cookie on your computer. This cookie can, when you visit the site again, be read by the site and used to identify you.
This can be useful, as it allows you to stay logged in even after your computer is rebooted, and quickly lets you share news on any social media accounts.
However, cookies also let social media companies (and the NSA) track you across sites. For example, social media sites let news organizations embed snippets of code that show how often an article has been shared.
These snippets also feed back information about which sites you’ve visited, and which articles you’ve been reading. This gathered data can be used to feed you targeted advertisements or identify your religious, political, or sexual preferences.
How to stop cookies tracking you
1.    Disable third-party cookies and consider deleting cookies every time you restart your browser
2.    Install Privacy Badger to see which cookies a site uses, then block them where appropriate
3.    Use an incognito window to open sites and articles that you do not wish to be connected to your regular browsing or purchasing habits
incognito settings

Incognito mode will help protect against browser fingerprinting
Cookies are still the number one method for collecting information online, but browserfingerprinting has become increasingly popular.
With browser fingerprinting, the website you visit will gather information about your browser, the fonts you have installed, and the add-ons or browser extensions you use. This information could be enough to detect you, even if you’re careful about your privacy.
Browser fingerprinting is more of a probability score than an exact match for who’s who on the internet, but it does work and is hard to defend against. Check out EFF’s Panopticlick to see what browser fingerprinting looks like in action.
How to limit the effectiveness of browser fingerprinting
1.    To avoid fingerprinting, run a popular browser that uses no default fonts or extensions, like the Tor Browser
2.    Be careful with extensions, as some extensions are detectable by the sites you visit. The ExpressVPN Chrome Extension is safe to use even in incognito mode.
Incognito mode will stop family members snooping on your computer
If somebody else, like a family member or flatmate, has access to your computer, an incognito window can help you hide certain activity (like buying a birthday present) from them. In fact, it is probably a much better option than deleting your history altogether, which might raise unnecessary suspicion.
Incognito mode won’t stop people tracking you with your DNS records
Every time you visit a website, like ExpressVPN.com, your browser will have to obtain the site’s IP address. The browser will ask a DNS server “what is the IP address of expressvpn.com.” The DNS server then responds with the correct answer, allowing you to connect to the ExpressVPN website.
However, the DNS server may record your queries and sell them to advertisers or pass them on to law enforcement.
By default, your DNS service is supplied by your Internet Service Provider, but it can be changed to one maintained byGoogle. There are also free DNS services that promise not to pass on your information, such as OpenNIC.
VPN providers like ExpressVPN also maintain their own DNS service, which comes included with a VPN subscription. ExpressVPN does not keep logs and does not pass on any information to advertisers.
Minimize the threat from DNS tracking:
Incognito mode won’t stop system administrators at work or school from tracking you
If you use public Wi-Fi or connect to your school or work network, the administrator can see every site you visit. For sites not encryptedwith HTTPS, they are even able to see the contents of the site and all information you exchange with it.
Incognito windows will not protect you from system admins.
Minimize the threat of system admins tracking you
1.    Use Tor or a VPN (or both) to hide your browsing habits from the network administrator.
Be careful if the computer you are using is not yours (such as a computer at school or work). The owner of these devices may have installed other tracking software that will collect information even if you use a VPN or Tor.
Great reasons to open an incognito window
·         Hide your browsing history from others using your computer
·         Hide browsing habits from advertisers
·         Avoid browser fingerprinting
Make use of the incognito window when it makes sense! It’s a great tool that will help you maintain control over your own data. Use the Tor Browser anda VPN connection to shield against intruders, and use your own devices whenever possible.

UC Browser Now Restored in Google Play Store

UC Browser has been restored in Google Playstore just about a week after it was deleted from the Google App store following a tweet from Mike Ross, who claimed to be a company employee, resulted to reports that the Alibaba-owned mobile web browser was allegedly utilizing unhealthy and misleading practices to promote its app downloads.

But now, the issue has been rectified in the latest build uploaded to Google Play. The company confirmed that "the latest version is available for users with updated technical settings strictly in line with Google Playstore policy."

It's worthy to know that UC browser currently has more than 500,000,000 installations on Playstore and it's one of the popular mobile browsers for fast downloading of stuffs online.

Other rivals to the app includes Google Chrome (my best), Opera mini (for faster browsing and minimal data consumption), Pufin, to mention but a few.

Reason Why UC Browser Was Deleted From Google Playstore

Popular web browser, UC Browser has my strangely disappeared from the Google Play store after achieving 500 million downloads just last month.

The mobile browser which is owned by Alibaba has been delisted by Google overnight because of misleading content. So now you know the reason why it's removed.

Users started noticing this first on Tuesday this week. One of them by name Mike Ross, who claims to work for UC Browser, tweeted that the browser is "temporarily removed" from the Play Store for 30 days due to adopting "misleading" and "unhealthy" methods of increasing installs. We've reached out to Google and UCWeb for clarity and will update this space accordingly.

Responding to that, UCweb had this to say via mail… "We have conducted an urgent internal investigation and fixed the problem. The new version has been uploaded on Google Play's Developer Console and is awaiting evaluation. We will actively cooperate with Google Play for any concern caused by this unintentional error".

In a positive note, the UC mini browser is still available in playstore so if you really want to use UC browser, then you should consider it (that is if you don't have the main version already installed in your device).

For me, whether UC is deleted or not, my main web browser is Google Chrome. What about you.

Goodbye To Mozilla Firefox on Windows XP and Windows Vista

It's weird but some people are still using Windows XP and Vista. Recent statistics revealed that about 5.69% of computers connected globally still uses XP and Vista which are very old versions of Windows operating system.

Now, Mozilla has released announcement making it clear that it’s ending supports for Windows Vista and Windows XP OS as the company declare the end of life date till June 2018.

According to the company,
We strongly encourage our users to upgrade to a version of Windows that is supported by Microsoft. Unsupported operating systems receive no security updates, have known exploits, and are dangerous for you to use

Recall, Google ended its Chrome support for Windows XP and Vista platform in 2016, similarly, Microsoft ended its internet explorer support for Windows XP. Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on April 8, and introduced a new web browser called Edge in the process.

READ: Mozilla Launch Firefox Focus For iOS Devices

So now that Mozilla has now decided to end support for its Firefox browser on Windows XP and Vista after 12 years of keeping the OS safe, are you still going to continue using the Old Windows XP version? Remember it's risky as there is no security support anymore when you are connected to the internet on such devices. This is 2017. Try to follow the trends. Even if it's Windows 8, you will be in a Safer part.

Microsoft Edge Browser is Coming to Android and iOS Devices

Remember Edge Browser built by Microsoft? Now, the Edge browser is coming to Android and iOS smartphones. Microsoft has already started a beta testing program for Windows Insiders to give Egde mobile a try.

Microsoft Edge on iOS and Android will be able to push pages to and from the PC so you can continue your browsing on multiple devices. This means, if you use the web browser on both your PC and mobile device, you can synchronize your activities including the recent pages you visited on both platforms. You can start something from your mobile device and finish it up in your PC.

Edge will also sync bookmarks, history and reading lists and brings its Reading View to mobile - with it you can eliminate the links, ads and design clutter from an article and focus only on the text.

Unfortunately, you won't be able sync tabs for now with Edge browser as you would do with Google Chrome which is my best web browser.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Edge has a few advantages on Windows 10 PCs over Chrome, Firefox and the likes. It's cleaner, it works fast with HTML5 content and it's generally better for your laptop's battery life compared to its peers. It's also catching up in terms of browser plug-ins. Not least of all Edge works best with Windows Precision drivers for your laptop's trackpad bringing the smoothest multitouch zoom and gestures on Windows 10.

DO YOU WANT TO TEST IT?

Assuming you want to test and see what this web browser looks like and its features on your mobile device, you can do so by joining the Windows Insider program for more details and procedures.

Download Mozilla Quantum Beta Browser - The New Fatser Firefox

After announcing plans for Project Quantum late last year, Mozilla has now launched its overhauled Firefox in beta stage, making it an increasingly imminent challenge to Chrome. And it's a very feasible challenge too, given the browser's improvements. Speed is its main selling point.

Mozilla says Quantum is roughly twice as fast as Firefox was a year ago. This is largely due to a new CSS engine written in Mozilla's programming language, Rust, which operates across cores rather than as a single memory-hungry process on one core. It also priorities tabs, loading up in-use tabs before background ones, which Mozilla says makes Quantum 30 percent more RAM-efficient than Chrome. The team has also tracked down and eliminated 469 bugs that were contributing to slowness.

And it's had a makeover. Menus and tabs have been redesigned, while a new "library" button pulls together bookmarks, downloads and history into one place. Overall, it's got a more minimalist look, which will work well on high-DPI displays, but die-hard fans of the original style can still switch back to old familiar via preferences. It's available in beta now for Linux, macOS, Windows, Android and iOS, but is expected out on general release on November 14th, so you won't have to wait too long to see the impact Quantum makes on the long-established browser landscape.

Why You Should Use Incognito Mode When Browsing (3 Reasons)

In web browsing, Incognito Mode permits you to browse web pages without altering your privacy online. Incognito mode deletes history right away after quitting your browser. It will automatically erase your shopping histories and search history as you browse the web, and won’t enable any tracking of cookies.

WHY INCOGNITO MODE?
Do you share your private PC, and your mobile phone with buddies and families? Do you make use of the general public Wi-Fi or Unprotected community web services (cybercafe)? Are you looking to be confidential when browsing the net? If yes, Incognito mode gives you the complete access with out using VPN. It hides your online activities so that no one can track what you do online.

Interestingly, many web browsers comes with this feature and I’ve gathered some fascinating reasons why you should browse in incognito mode (when doing sensitive things online). Beneath are the listed reasons:

1. MAINTAIN ONLINE PRIVACY
When you're making use of your friend’s phone or laptop; browse with a cyber café, make use of shared networks etc. As one of the most safety measures recounted here, it’s really useful to hold sensitive small print specifically passwords, banking small print personal to oneself.

Since it’s a 3rd party means, Incognito mode is the excellent choice to protect individual data and saved browaing will probably be erased instantly after quitting the browser. Despite the fact that, incognito mode doesn’t guarantee full data safeguard however combined with telling websites to not store your password and utilising a dash of common sense, incognito mode turns into a powerful type of defense.

2. USING MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS AT ONCE
This one will wow you. Are you unsure if it’s viable to login into websites with multiple accounts? Normally, you can't login to different Google account in one web browser but with incognito mode, it’s handy to accomplish this. You could even login into two different facebook accounts on the same browser. That is made possible as cookies and caches are usually not being saved.

3. SEARCH ENGINE RESULTS AND RANKING
Many don’t understand that search engines like google and yahoo results are served centered on some suggestions like Search historical past, associates and contacts, networks, locations and so on. To get a pure search engine outcome, incognito mode is required. This means search engines will deliver unbiased results not according to your previous search histories.

Few days ago, just a little argument popped out between a fellow blogger and friend. I informed him his website is rating higher than a some high authority website on the grounds that his search results are biased and served based on prior search influence and search historical past but he disagreed saying his search engine optimization is at work. I tried to convince him but he refused to accept until i revealed this to him.

If you are a blogger or website owner and think your site is really ranking higher than many other sites, just do yourself a favor by trying to search some of those keywords that ranked high on your phone with another person's phone or in a cyber cafe. There, you will see what i mean. So most times, search results depends on what cookies saved on your browser.

Meanwhile, incognito browsing has its disadvantages as well and that will be available in subsequent articles. I advise you to apply incognito mode only when you are carrying out sensitive tasks online or if your phone or PC is used by many people. Keep tuned!

Checkout How I Listen To YouTube Videos And Music In The Background With Ease

Normally you cannot listing to music tacklists or videos on YouTube in the background except you use the YouTube Red feature which isn't free.

Whenever you are playing a music on YouTube and try to lock your screen to continue doing any other things, the music will automatically stop playing. Meaning, whenever your smartphone screen turns off, your current playing YouTube media will pause. Anyway, i just found out how to continue playing the media files even while the phone is in sleep mode.

BUT HOW?

Before now, I normally use third party apps like Vidmate, tubemate etc to achieve this but recently i discovered i can still achieve the same result without a third-party app. How was it possible? Yes that's the expected question. Well, do you remember Mozilla Firefox web browser? The popular browser that we all started with decade ago? Hahaha. While the PC version is outdated and scrapped for the Edge browser, the Android version of the browser is Dope.

With the Firefox browser for android, you can watch any YouTube video of your choice in background without it stopping on the way or pausing itself. Just login to YouTube from the browser, search for the video or music track you want to listen to, play and minimize the browser. That's all.

NB
You should exclude Firefox from the list of apps under task killer's watch if you are using task killer app on your phone

Apart from the ability to play YouTube videos in the background, Firefox browser brings a very lively browsing experience on your android device with a whole lot of customization, plugins that suits your stile, support for latest java script and many more web browsing experience. You can download it on playstore and feel live browsing experience.

Fast Browsers: Why Are You Not Using Browser XMan and AC Browser

I occasionally carry out web browser app reviews on this blog wizytechs.com because new browsers are developed on frequent basis and not all of us are aware of some of these browsers. The two browsers i will be revealing here are know to be among the fastest and most simple web browsers with some basic features.

When we talk about XMan and AC Browsers, we mean lightweight, fast, simple, data saving and energy saving web browsers

Oh yes, am aware Opera Mini and UC browser had already captured your minds especially UC browser but if you are always complaining or having issues of low phone memory, it's time to get rid of browsers like UC browser as it consumes a whole lot of your phone internal storage unknowingly to you. Unless you have a lot of space and your phone works flawlessly, then you can continue with it.

Just like main Facebook app which eats a huge part of your phone internal memory as you use the app. At initial installation, it might take about 44MB but as you continue using Facebook, it accumulates as much as 500MB which is very huge and eventually starts slowing your phone down. This also happens with UC browser. To confirm this, go to your phone settings > Applications > UC browser and see the accumulated MB (although Facebook lite is better)

While UC browser takes a lot of your phone storage, Opera mini doesn't but the two apps i will discuss here delivers even more results than opera and takes just some kilobytes of your phone internal memory.
