SORRY: Push Notifications Stops Working on Older Windows Phones

Is this the final blow? After discontinuing support for apps on Windows smartphones, Microsoft has announced that starting from February 20, older versions of windows phone will no longer be receiving mobile notifications.
Windows phone push notification

So if you are still using Windows Phone 7.5 or Windows Phone 8.0 smartphone in 2018, you are living in an outdated planet. Now tell me how you will feel if you can't receive notifications on your smartphone?

Microsoft is shutting down mobile push notifications for these two versions of their mobile OS.
But that isn’t all. In addition to your Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 smartphones no longer receiving notifications, they will also no longer receive live tiles updates, and the “find my phone” feature will not work on them anymore.

According to Microsoft:
"On February 20, 2018, Mobile Push Notification services will be turned off for Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.0. Once this happens: Your phone will no longer receive notifications. Your phone will not receive additional live tile updates. The “Find my phone” feature will no longer locate your phone. Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.0 have reached their end of support dates, and thus services for these versions of Windows will be discontinued over time."

The shutdown takes effect from today 20th February, 2018.

Just as Blackberry is now almost fazed out of this world, Windows smartphones will follow suit immediately as they can't compete with the likes of Android and Apple.

The question is why are you still using these devices even after knowing that the manufacturers has now rejected them?

I mean there are so many Android and iOS devices at different price tags you can get and save yourself this unnecessary hassle.

WHAT ABOUT WINDOWS 10?

This is the biggest blow because no one is save as long as it cincerns Windows devices. Microsoft revealed that Windows 10 Mobile Is On Its Way Out Too.

RELATED: How Microsoft Confirmed The End of Windows Phone.

At the moment, some app developers has ended support for windows 10 mobile devices. The latest app to stop working is Uber. Uber has made an official statement that they are no longer developing for Windows 10 Mobile.

Finally, Windows Phone is Dead - Microsoft Confirms

After all the pressure and perseverance, Microsoft has confirmed that windows mobile phones will be discontinued.

Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has revealed that the software giant is no longer developing new features or hardware for Windows 10 Mobile via some tweets on Twitter hours ago.

While Windows Phone fans had hoped Microsoft would update the platform with new features, it’s now clear the operating system has been placed into servicing mode, with just bug fixes and security updates for existing users. the verge

“Of course we'll continue to support the platform.. bug fixes, security updates,” says Belfiore. “But building new features/hw aren't the focus.” During the recent Windows 10 Fall Creators Update development phase, it has been obvious Microsoft is no longer working on the mobile experience. The software maker branched its development process into “feature2,” leaving Windows Phone fans disappointed.

Belfiore also admits he switched to Android, just like Bill Gates, and that Microsoft will support Windows 10 customers who want to use Android and iOS on their phones. One of the big reasons Microsoft is giving up on Windows Phone is because developers never backed the platform.

Microsoft said the demand for Windows phone were to low that they couldn't continue.

Microsoft Edge Browser is Coming to Android and iOS Devices

Remember Edge Browser built by Microsoft? Now, the Edge browser is coming to Android and iOS smartphones. Microsoft has already started a beta testing program for Windows Insiders to give Egde mobile a try.

Microsoft Edge on iOS and Android will be able to push pages to and from the PC so you can continue your browsing on multiple devices. This means, if you use the web browser on both your PC and mobile device, you can synchronize your activities including the recent pages you visited on both platforms. You can start something from your mobile device and finish it up in your PC.

Edge will also sync bookmarks, history and reading lists and brings its Reading View to mobile - with it you can eliminate the links, ads and design clutter from an article and focus only on the text.

Unfortunately, you won't be able sync tabs for now with Edge browser as you would do with Google Chrome which is my best web browser.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Edge has a few advantages on Windows 10 PCs over Chrome, Firefox and the likes. It's cleaner, it works fast with HTML5 content and it's generally better for your laptop's battery life compared to its peers. It's also catching up in terms of browser plug-ins. Not least of all Edge works best with Windows Precision drivers for your laptop's trackpad bringing the smoothest multitouch zoom and gestures on Windows 10.

DO YOU WANT TO TEST IT?

Assuming you want to test and see what this web browser looks like and its features on your mobile device, you can do so by joining the Windows Insider program for more details and procedures.

This Is How Microsoft Is Disabling Password Usage

Microsoft is seriously trying out ways to discourage password usage for people when they try to sign it to their accounts. Password is a great way to protect your different online accounts but some people are still novices when it comes to choosing a strong password, so this has led to so many bad cases of people's account being ha^cked and so on.

Additionally, when you uses different passwords for your different online accounts (the best advice), your passwords can be difficult to remember. So Microsoft is now finding ways totally do away with them.

WHAT IS THE NEW METHOD?

Microsoft revealed an alternative method you can sign into your Microsoft accounts by using an app on on your smartphones. This simply means, you won't need to enter any password again. All you need to do is just install the 'Microsoft Authentication app" on Android, iOS and Windows platform.

HOW IT WORKS
This is how it works, when you try to log in, it sends you a notification on your phone. All you have to do is tap to approve and you would be logged into your account without any passwords! Isn't that easy and simple? But personally, i wish every phone will have fingerprint support because it's the best and fastest method of accessing your accounts instead of typing cumbersome passwords.

DRAWBACK

There is a popular saying that 'nothing is perfect on earth' so is this method. There is limitation, which is, your phone must be accessible to you. In other words, you need your phone right there with you in order to log in. So if you lose your phone or don’t have access to it, you have to revert to using your password. Also, ha^ckers can still access your account when they are with your unlocked phone.

CONCLUSION
No matter the limitations, it's still a big step forward by Microsoft as people's password has been tampered with so many times that's why I advise people to embrace the pattern of using a very long password with upper case, numbers, lower case and a special character together so that it will be like climbing mount Everest before one can guess or ha^ck into it.

Still Using Windows 7? See Dangerous Warning From Microsoft

Ever since Windows 7 was launched by Microsoft years ago, the OS has captured the minds of PC users globally to the extent that even after the release of newer OS versions such as Windows 8 and Windows 10, many people still remained with their friendly Windows 7.

Windows 7 OS simplicity and the old school traditional Windows feel, and the perfect amount of cutting edge including its stable and secure nature makes it the number one OS of majority of Windows users all over the world.

Little wonder some people refused to upgrade their PC to latest Windows 10 even when Microsoft made the upgrading process free of charge.

Now, there is a serious warning from Microsoft. According to them, Windows 7 has an outdated security that will no longer be able to keep up with today’s increased security requirements. Below is the official statement.
Windows 7 slowly becomes old. It does not meet the requirements of today’s modern technology, nor the high security requirements of IT departments. We learned from Windows XP that companies should take early steps to avoid future risks or costs.”

“Companies and users who won’t upgrade from Windows 7 within the next three years are facing enormous dangers.”

Microsoft Now Pays People To Use The Edge Browser & Bing Search

Microsoft announced that it is restructuring the former "Bing rewards" to Microsoft rewards – a platform that will pay you to use the Edge browser and Bing.

Wait! Before you get over excited, this offer is not yet available for Africans but anything can happen on nearest future in regards to its extension to users in Africa.

People who uses Edge browser and who signed up for "Microsoft Rewards", which is currently US-only stuff, would be awarded points just for using the browser.

You might ask how possible it is? Now here is the catch; Microsoft would actively monitor whether you are using the program for up to 30 hours a month, you also have to make Bing as your default search engine to earn points. The Points you accumulated can then be traded in for vouchers or credit for places such as Starbucks, Skype, Amazon and ad-free Outlook.com

I know the battle is really tuff between Google and Microsoft. It hasn't been so easy for any other competitors competing with any Google products as they seems to have the upper hand. Let's see if Microsoft can win the heart of some people through this offer.

Although, i believe they can't achieve this by making the service available to only United States residents. If they are really serious to get more people to use their web browser and search engine, they should extend it to other countries and also make the Edge browser available on older windows version and not just windows 10.

I think one of the problems the Edge browser has is that it’s only limited to Windows 10, make this available to all, then watch the numbers triple.
