Google Implementing Non-Skippable Ads on YouTube Channels

The new YouTube Non-Skippable ads will be beneficial to YouTube Channel owners while it will be a torn in the flesh for subscribers especially those on low data management.

If you are such that love to watch YouTube videos, beginning from next week, you might be unable to skip ads to the video you want to watch. It's quite unfortunate how google want to impose ads on YouTubers just like that.

When this feature is finally in place, you must complete watching ads before you can watch the Video you want to watch on YouTube.

Already this Non-Skippable ads feature is already available on some YouTube channels for experimental purposes prior to full roll out because the company says it’s releasing it to everyone in the YouTube Partner Program, so creators can get the chance to earn more money.

According to a Google Help page, the max video length for non-skippable ads is 15 to 20 seconds.
This is still longer than the typical 5-second “mandatory watch” period of skippable adverts, however, which many users are accustomed to seeing.

This feature will be auto activated for YouTube Channel created and same applies to their previous upload.

The good news is that YouTube Channel owners will make more money via this compulsory, ‘must watch’, advert from google while subscribers will have to suffer for it. It reminds me of the saying "one mans food is another mans poison".

Google Introduces Voice Remote Feature on YouTube TV

YouTube TV is an internet TV service that allows you stream LIVE broadcasts from major channels like ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. Recently, new channels were added including Channels TV in Nigeria.

Now google is introducing a new YouTube TV feature called 'voice remote', that lets you do certain important tasks through voice commands instead of clicking or tapping with your hand, stylus pen or any other input device.

For example, you can use your voice to change channels, play a particular channel, perform forward and rewind operations as well as adjust volume.

It will amaze you to know that a support page for this feature has already been there on Google's website for quite some time now, so it was about time the functionality was rolled out.

Google has finally rolled out dark theme mode for YouTube for mobile devices to help protect your eyes while streaming videos at night or in dark areas.

Before now, the traditional color of YouTube is red and white for both mobile and desktop platforms. But now there are more options.

Google just followed the footsteps of Twitter to make this possible. Although there is workaround to enable this option in YouTube.

Dark theme is best for dark areas. This helps prevent the bad effects from blue rays that emanate from your mobile device.

YouTube App for iOS Gets Dynamic Player for Vertical Playback

Before now, iOS users were having issues with playing YouTube videos vertically as there is always a black line that appears when playing video in that mode.

Now, the recent update to YouTube iOS version of its app has fixed it and you can now play vertical videos correctly. This update was issued to the Android app two and a half years ago but for some reason never came to iOS until now.

This simply means users will be able to watch a vertically shot video in the correct aspect ratio without issues. It will be a big relief from the black bar issues encountered while watching fullscreen on a vertical video played in landscape with massive black bars on the side. Now playing a vertical video in fullscreen keeps the screen in portrait so the video fills your entire screen.

But at the moment, YouTube is yet to fix the issue for users who record videos vertically.

Checkout the New Look of YouTube with New Logo

YouTube now has new logo, material design on PC, dark theme as well as mobile enhancements. YouTube announced these new updates earlier today.

The new YouTube logo combines the wordmark with an icon. The icon is the familiar Play button, which now sits on top of the red outline of a CRT TV that used to be under the "Tube" part of the wordmark. The icon is to the left of the wordmark on the website, but in some cases the brightened up icon will be used as an abbreviated logo. This is rolling out today.

The service's mobile apps have been updated with a new design that has the navigation tabs on the bottom (including new Library and Account sections), the ability to speed up and slow down playback (previously a web-only feature), and recently a row of suggested videos has been added to the full screen view. Additionally, "in the coming months" you'll be able to jump between videos with a swipe - left for previous, right for next. Soon, the YouTube player will seamlessly change shape to match the video format you're watching, so no more black bars on those vertically-shot videos. Finally, the area below the player should let you "browse videos in totally new ways" at some point in the future.

Google Introduces YouTube Breaking News Section

Harrah!!! YouTube now has a "breaking news" feature that displays videos about latest events globally. In other words, YouTube Breaking News section contains a collection of videos that share breaking news from any part of the globe. So YouTube is no more about watching your favorite music, movies, funny jokes and all that, but also you now get informed with the latest happenings via video news feed. Interesting i must say.

The news videos can be seen in a horizontally scrollable format, and they are unique to your region. Interestingly Breaking News is available on Android, iOS, and desktop platforms. However, not quite everyone has gotten the feature yet. Also, it is not clear as to whether this Breaking News section will only be operational when there is breaking news. However, it is quite clear that people from the same region would be receiving the same news.

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT THE NEWS?

Well, if you do not want to see the news, you can simply hit the X on your desktop platform, or tap the "Not Interested" option in the three-dot menu on your mobile device.

You Can Now Share YouTube Videos Without Leaving The App

YouTube has released a new update to its app which now allows you share YouTube videos without leaving the app. This new feature is long-awaited as it makes sharing contents more easier. In other words YouTubers can "direct-message" any video you watch on the site to family and friends through private conversations.

Before this update, you had to copy and paste the link for YouTube videos into other messaging platforms; which is time consuming and not really fast as this new method. Right now, you can also continue the conversation you started, send emojis, reply to someone’s video with another video, and invite others to join the group chat.

HOW IT WORKS
You can view all your conversations in a new tab called “Shared” on the YouTube app. to start using it, simply invite your friends from your contacts through SMS or by sending them an invitation link through a social network, email or messaging app.

The format is similar to Instagram’s direct message feature. If there are YouTube videos you want to send, simply tap on the arrow below the video and a list of contacts will show up. You can either send it directly to one person or send it to multiple people. You can create a group chat of up to 30 people. Also, you can include a message before sending YouTube videos, in the text box available underneath the list of people you are sending it to.

The new YouTube feature is also similar to Google Messenger, which was later rebranded as Android SMS. The app allows you to communicate with anyone using SMS and MMS, among others. You can send group texts along with pictures, audio messages and videos without having to leave the app. It’s clear what YouTube wants to achieve with this feature – the user’s attention is engaged on the platform, and the user gets to share without leaving the app.

YouTube Video Support Coming To WhatsApp Directly

A brand new feature is coming to whatsapp that will allow you embed YouTube videos directly to the app so that you and your contacts can view it without opening YouTube app for playback.

This interesting feature will be added directly within the chat window, eliminating the need for the app to launch the YouTube app for playback.

The feature enables playback to be launched in a picture-in-picture window, while also offering functionalities like pinch-to-zoom, full screen view mode, and hide ongoing playback to continue reading messages in chat.

Meanwhile, once you switch to chat with another person, the playback will stop. For now, the feature is exclusively available on iOS, with supported devices including the iPhone 6 and above. No such tests have been noticed on the app's Android and Windows Phone clients.

If testing goes fine, Android users will be able to enjoy WhatsApp's new in-app YouTube playback soon. ref

Google has finally added thumbnail previews for YouTube videos on desktop. It's a much anticipated feature and now a timely update to make YouTube more interesting and addictive.

When you visit YouTube on desktop or lapto, you can now "mouseover" any video thumbnail on the website and get a 3 second preview of the video contents. The purpose of this is to let you know the content of the video even without clicking on it. For now, it works on Chrome and Opera only and is not available yet on mobile devices.

Before now, the lack of thumbnail previews made it difficult to know the content of the video without clicking it, even though this technology has been available on some video sites for years now.

DISADVANTAGES OF THIS FEATURE

This has been taken advantage of by content creators by using "clickbait" images for the thumbnails to entice viewers into clicking on their videos by having an exaggerated or even unrelated image in the thumbnail. This can be spotted on some Facebook videos with deceiving thumbnails that leads to unrelated sites when clicked upon. With previews that now pull frames from random points in the video, users can see roughly what they are getting into before clicking.

Unfortunately, this probably won't stop the clickbaiters for long. As the last line in YouTube's support post says, "Currently, creators are not able to select the preview that is shown." The "currently" part states that YouTube might allow content creators to set their own previews for thumbnails later on.

YouTube App for Android Now Have Bottom Navigation Bar

Google has been testing a new User Interface for YouTube app for Android since September last year and now it is a success as the aim is achieved. YouTube is worlds most popular video sharing social media platform with millions of videos uploaded by users. You can also make money from the videos you upload on YouTube hence there are so many Millionaire Vloggers.

Now YouTube has officially added navigation bar buttons in the bottom of the app to give it a more appealing look and easy to use. The features clearly labeled tabs, so you no longer have to wonder what you're about to tap on. It's also visible on all pages (except when watching videos).

Account and Library are now separate sections, making it simpler to find what you want. Your videos (playlists, watch history, uploads) reside within Library, while Account and Settings can be reached from your profile icon at the top.
Additionally, the app now remembers where you left off in each tab, and when you go back you can easily pick up from there. That's nice if you ask me.
